Default VW Golf Mk IV radio won't pick up medium wave?

Can anyone help? I have a 2002 Golf with a standard "Beta" radio unit. Picks
up FM fine, but nothing at all on MW, just static. I miss virgin radio!

The VW dealer says I need a new arial, a bargain at £197! Eek!

Anyone heard of an issue like this before?

Thanks!

That sounds like an expensive aerial! friggin veedub stealers!

I believe you need a autoleads PC5-90 adapter. Its basically a signal
booster. Usually used on aftermarket head units as the vw stock radios have
a amplifier built in which powers the aerial. Which yours should actually.
So I would first check all your fittings (aerial) lead are on properly and
everythings looking as it should behind the radio. If not try this lead
about £10.

.... to add perhaps the amplifier in the beta has knackered hence why your
only getting FM ?

Expensive, yes, my thoughts exactly! I'm not paying that, I'll sing to
myself rather than pay that!

Thanks for the reply, I have ordered the lead you suggest.

honest.

If you need any help just give me a shout, its quite straighforward.

address to send some photos and a request for help!
