Default Audio cable and quality?

Just about to set up the DVD to Hi Fi (technics SCEH790)

the DVD produces decoded 5.1 sound, and the Hifi takes the decoded signal
"straight through" and to the speakers. There are therefore 6 phone sockets
on the DVD and Hifi and require a cable to link the two units about 5metres
apart. The Video also has two stereo out phones, which can be connected to
the Stereo requiring 8 cables in all.

What cable do I need? Does the type of cable affect the quality? Any
suggestions (price/quality - maplin codes?)
Does the type of plug used affect sound? Gold, screw, solder etc?

What is the neatest way to acheive this? 8 cables loomed together with cable
ties is my current thinking?
