quad 33 preamp - aux dc output on pin 4?
What is the aux DC output on the quad 33 rated at and what was it intended
to power? I'm just interested and wondering if if could feed a headphone
amp...

I'd say probably to switch a relay which handled the mains on a high
powered amp - the switched mains outlet from the 33 is pretty weedy.

mmm... good idea - I hadn't thought of that! It doesn't do anything in
the 303 though, so they may have been thinking of more power at some time.
It's only half-wave rectified, which makes sense for a relay.

Well, Quad stuff was often used (modified or altered) for pro work, and I
seem to remember reading that was what it was provided for.

Yes, and IIRC only 100 µF of smoothing - so not designed for much in the
way of 'audio use' current.

From the Quad 33 Service Manual......" The DC supply provided on pin 4 of
the output plug, derived from diode MR503, is used only as switching supply
for special installations. Its regulation is poor and it is nominally 7-8
volts at 1 milliamp maximum, intermittent rating."
It was discontinued at S/N 80,000.

Excellent! Thanks very much. Looks like its certainly no good for a
headphone amp then - never mind!
(This is S/N 57751 by the way, getting on a bit - like me... :-) )
