Sony M-Crew Software
Let's face it, this software is pretty lame, Does anyone know where I can
get any info on the protocols used between the units and the PC?. I'm a pretty experienced programmer, particularly in serial & midi comms. It shouldn't be too difficult to improve upon M-Crew if I can get the inside info. If I have to analyse and figure out how they speak to each other then it's a different story. TIA Craig |

You are right - the software is dire and I have considered trying to improve on it. The M-Crew site seems to have been static since 2002 :-( -- Tim Hobbs '58 Series 2 '77 101FC Ambulance '95 Discovery V8i Barcoding? http://www.bartec-systems.com |

I don't fancy doing that again. It wouldn't be hard to improve upon M-Crew, a decent interface that actually remembered settings, less clicks to download CDDB data, download genre data from CDDB, and actually being able to print something!! Delphi is waiting but I don't want to reinvent the wheel Craig |

Have you tried emailing sony? I wouldn't expect them to have protocols on their main site - not of general interest to consumers, but they /might/ be more helpful if they hear you want to make them new software for free (assuming it'd be freeware) that'd work on more diverse platforms (again, I'm assuming). Most likely the bosses know their software's dire! It's a long shot but a few big companies are starting to realise how helping open source helps them. -- Jim H jh @333 .org |

Won't they insist that all that OpenMG bollox be incorporated thereby screwing up what could be useful software? Hmm... yeah, maybe. Strange how somthing so closed is called open. -- Jim H jh @333 .org |
