I just have a question although the denon is a lovely system and is

very
reasonably priced. But I have this nagging thought in my head to buy a
seperate system, so I am looking for a nudge in the right direction and

a
bit of advice from you guys\gals in the know :-)

No doubt you will receive a variety of conflicting suggestions,
however my personal opinion is that for most beginners to the hobby,
the Denon D-M31 is an absolutely superb introduction which one would
need to spend at least double the cost of (and perhaps significantly
more) in order to obtain any significant improvement.

Just bought one as a gift for somebody at christmas, would be an
understatement to say it went down a storm! :-)

The SC-M51 Mission built loudspeakers supplied with the D-M31
optionally as standard are one area where one can improve the
performance of the system at relatively little cost.

Agreed - the supplied speakers are utter ****e IMO, even though they
are Mission designs. Since I was boght the Denon at Richer Sounds I
picked up some M71i's in Beech instead - a snip at £59. In this case
the choice was limited by space, but the Denon can drive bigger and
better speakers so shop around.

thanks for the feedback I have bought the denon without speakers, bought the
mission m71's some decent cable and some nice speaker stands and couldn't be
happier it suits all my needs and no complaints from me. Doing the job
remarkably for the price.

Thank you again for the help.
