DVD audio

I did, but the picture flashed due to macrovision unless the
VCR was turned off.

I thought I'd have to turn the vcr on for the audio to be put through ???
At first thoughts I'd rather leave the vcr off.

What is macrovision (an undocumented 'feature' or something intentional) ??
