Default Compact turntable

I would like to get a compact turntable to plug into my Sony midi system. I
haven't got much space so I'd like one which is actually smaller than an LP
(I think I've seen them like that).

Could anyone recommend one to me. I'm happy with the cheapest possible.

Thanks.

So how exactly would you play an LP? I know what you mean, but you wouldn't
save space since you'd still need the same distance between units, unless of
course you scrunched them up between LPs.

Richer Sounds have turntables from about £40 up.

If you find one smaller than an LP let me know! It's an interesting
concept. And pointless, unless you can suggest how you wouldn't need
to allocate a LP's worth of space to use it :-)

I'm *sure* I saw one of these in Richer a couple of weeks ago. The platter
was undersized and you obviously couldn't play LPs next to a wall! I
thought it looked a good, but impractical, gimmick until I realised that a
lot of people used to keep their "record player"s in a cupboard and just
lay them out on the carpet when they needed them. Perhaps this is the
latest trend in that direction! Sorry, I don't remember any other details
about it.

They were originally destined to sit on top of a 'midi' system. - The
traditional place for a turntable is at the top of a rack (or stack) of
other kit (Amp, CDP, Tape, Tuner etc.), hence the traditional width of about
440 mm for most of those other devices, for aesthetic reasons....

I don't think many people "used to" do this! maybe today, if playing
vinyl is only occasionally needed.

If you're at all interested in the music, it's worth getting something
a LITTLE better than the cheapest and nastiest turntable. A turntable
that supports the whole lp would be a good start ;-)
