payed £500 for it - it came with a Fidelity Research FR64fx tonearm
(+original box & instructions) and a decent MM cart. So I'd say that
the price you've been quoted is way out of line and way too expensive.

As for the arm, go heavy!

Specifically, go for a Rega arm - it is very well suited to the table,
and ludicrously underpriced for what it does. A second-hand table is
usually OK (if you check for bearing rumble), but used arms are a
*very* dodgy purchase. The nice thing about an old GyroDec is that
even if the motor and bearing are shot, you can get latest spec
upgrades at very reasonable prices.

Was called into to the local hifi shop to sort out a 'dumb' brand new SME 10
deck and arm this afternoon (headshell incorrectly fitted) - these arms are
*seriously* good IMO. - The deck itself I could (and will have to anyway)
live without, the arm I could use......

Also, while I'm on - do *not* disregard the Kontrapunkt B - managed to sound
staggeringly good even on ****e Cyrus SS amp and Mission speakers!

Agreed, but if one is looking for a used GyroDec, I doubt that a new
SME is on the shopping list!
