No. They were sold to Britain to build this:

And how many lives did the Beagle cost?

Much as I dislike responding to a Troll (Wingardium Leviosa is
possibly the right thing to say!), but I suggest the our Peter
Spammon looks at the proportion of the US population that still
have there own teeth at the age of 60, (not synthetic implants!),
and compare that with the UK.
You might then want to stop drinking so much Coca-Cola over in
'Murrican land when you see the discrepancy.
I don't mind my crooked, but healthy teeth, even if I do go for a
dental check-up only every 6 months.
In addition to their renown in the areas of dentistry, martian lander
technology and national health care, the Brits are well known for
their firm grasp of reality.
Nope, a World Health Organisation report from a few years ago.
(What else has all that Coca-Pepsi-Cola rotted?)
Well based on the evidence of the last few days, an awful lot of brain
cells.
Actually it's losing several wars to the French that does it to you.
How about losing wars to people in pajamas?

Yes, I give up. You're right of course.
The British Space Program IS a world leader. I'll never, ever, forget
their first man in space, Trevor something or other.
Or for that matter
the first Brit to orbit the earth (Colin what's-his-name) or to land on
the moon.
Oh, and the British shuttle, well there you have a twenty year program.
I'll make sure to purchase a volume on the British Space Program. It'll
take up a spot in my library next to "Great Tasting and Successful
British Quisine" and "British Tips on Romance".
;-)
Ahhh, looks like the button pusher has gotten a button or two punched
himself...
Poor baby...

There wasn't any need to bomb the hell out of Argentina when we could
just
go down to the Falklands and tell the Argentinians to bugger off.
That was my point. Good show.
Of course, "we" means "The USA and the Brits right behind us".
Didn't see any americans while I was there ....

With the failure of the Beagle 2, one might argue, normal service has
been resumed. Britain is back where it likes to be, failing and
meticulously analysing that failure. Whole British industries are
devoted to this analysis. One of the great postwar British industries
is the sitcom, and that industry's greatest products are failures.
Basil Fawlty, Del Boy Trotter, Harold (and possibly Albert) Steptoe,
Rab C Nesbitt, Frank Spencer, the characters of Dad's Army and Are You
Being Served, David Brent and Alan Partridge are all ground-down
anti-heroes whose role is to remind the British, reassuringly, of
themselves, to confirm what we all know - that we suffer from a
British Leyland of the soul.
"A British Leyland of the soul". Priceless.

As opposed to the US car industry eh? Now there's a growth industry if
I
ever heard of one...
Then there's the tobacco companies...
The UK has always been known for it's originality and ideas. It's never
been best known as a manufacturer.
Now Fortress America tends to buy in its talent and/or steal it. It
always has done.
The US has to be good as something but I'm ****ed if I can think what
it

can't think of much we have to be grateful to them for.

What wars.....???
(We *lost* a war? - When did that happen? Why wasn't I told? -
Actually,
forget that, the French actually *won* a war??? What's that all about
then?))
Pity the sad state of British education. You could start with William the
Conqueror- technically I suppose.
The problem is that they consider a "withdrawl" by all of their forces
to not be equivalent to loosing. Lol.
They just decided to give everything up to the people and leave politely.
Again. And again. And again. And - god they are inventing new terms for
"withdrawing" by the bucketfull, aren't they?

Could You Please delete 'aus.hi-fi' from the Above List of Newsgroups

A UN organization extolling the virtues of British teeth?
Hmmm, why do you consider a denigration of America to be extolling
the virtues of the UK?
There is irony here.
There sure is, but I really don't think you understand what it really
is.
*sigh*
Thanks for confirming your lack of understanding.
Would it be too much to ask you guys to delete 'aus.hi-fi' from the list of
newsgroups to which you are multiposting. What you have to say is no doubt
important to you, but as we have very little idea of the background to much
of what you have posted, it is just a waste of bandwidth posting it to our
argumentative little group.
Thanks :-).
