Well it looks like my beloved 12 year old Sony CDP-X559ES is on it's way
out

It is all pointing to a transport problem. A few seconds (and always the
same few seconds) after pressing play at the start of the disk it skips
a bit (whatever disk is used), then occasionally it does the same thing
a few minutes later. Then it plays perfectly.

I think the optical transmitter is ****ed too, as every so often I'm
greeted with silence when using it

So ye folks with better technical nous than me, do you reckon I'm in the
right ball park?

Anyone know if this is repairable given the age of the beast. It's shame
to let this bugger be put to sleep as it's given me years of enjoyment
and is built like a brick ****house (it weighs about 40lbs!).

If it's past it can anyone recommend a suitable replacement? Bearing in
mind I'm strapped cashwise after forking out for some nice toys just
recently. I wouldn't mind a Genki but that's way too much for me at the
mo

F*ck the Genki - s'gotta be the DVDP/DAC (Tesco/secondhand) route, innit?

(Trouble with paying out good money to fix a 'modern oldie' is within a week
of getting it back, the sodding Power Switch or summat else fundamental goes
on the fritz.....)

My Roksan is doing this. 90% of the time it skips several times, but
only on track 1. Also, it will just displays zero's after skipping to
another track - refusing to do anything until the CD has been ejected
and put back in.

If its not the bloody car its something else!

You need one of those new Jap-tweaked (valve OP stage) high end jobs - I
think they're called Wadia-Noh?

:-)
