Given that equipment stands are so fashionable these days, with their claims
for improved performance, and commensurate (read expensive!) price tags, is
it still possible to get inexpensive, basic stands? I'm looking for a basic
hi-fi equipment stand - welded frame (not flat-pack), black, wooden shelves
(chipboard, mdf etc. is fine) and cheap, with min. 4 shelves (5 or 6 would
be even better) - Any thoughts, either for a dedicated hi-fi stand or
suitable alternatives from furniture stores? Something like the basic welded
Target stands of circa 15 years ago would be more than adequate.
I'm also looking for an even more basic stand for a portable TV with VCR's
etc. - something like the black, 3 shelf metal frame/wooden shelf, on
casters stand from Argos would do, except that, again, I need a minimum of 4
shelves (5 or 6 would be even better).
TIA.
Why not DIY? take a look at:

I second this option. It's much easier than you think, made mine (TNT
Flexy) by following the instructions in half a day (no power tools!).
Cost about US$20 for a 4 shelf, two more shelves would probably cost
another $5-$10 for the planks.
