Default Capturing better audio

Hi fellas.

I have a sony digital 8 camcorder (TRV355) and would like to improve the
quality of sound I get from it when filming.

I assume this is best don by purchasing a mic to use instead of the onboard
one.

This would effectively be a boom, therefore? (Sorry I'm a massive amateur)

As such, is there a relatively cheap way (£100 - ) of achieving this?

Thanks in advance guys,

Tom.

Those reviews of cams I've seen where they have measured the microphones
frequency curve you can many times see how they have made compensations and
focused on the midrange, where voices frequency range are.

So, IMHO yes, a microphone is a very good idea. I can however not you tell
you which one to buy, since I have only looked into this a little, but I am
also going to buy a mic. IMHO it should have a flat frequency curve between
50Hz and 15kHz (I reckon this is enough for most purposes).

Hope
