Hi,
I'm looking for a high quality preamp, but it must have remote
control
and
tone controls. Would prefer valve but would consider tranny.
Usual array of inputs with upto 750mv output.
What would you recommend?
New or s/hand or vintage.
Forget the Tone controls (Balance control is much more useful) and get
a
conrad-johnson Premier 17LS2.
Agreed. Find a pre-amp that sounds right to start off with.
About a year ago I changed my Alchemist Forseti pre for an Audiolab 8000Q
because I wanted remote control. After a day I realised that I didn't
want
remote control *that* badly and I switched back to the Alchemist.
Of couse, if I could find a remote control pre-amp that I liked the sound
of...
Damn.. I thought the 8000Q was supposed to be "world class".. :-)

It's funny cos I've heard the Q countless times and in countless systems
over the years, so was fairly confident about it. But it just sounded flat,
boring, lifeless and shut-in - not at all what I was expecting. Maybe it was
the context of the system - I'm starting to realise just how dry the Forseti
Power is compared to many other Alchemist amps and I guess the two together
was just too much for me.
At the moment I've got the Forseti Pre/Power packed up ready for moving and
have the Forseti RC Integrated in their place - man it's an awesome
amplifier - and it has remote control (but no tone!)
