I just got a pair today. OMFG! They sound so, so, so detailed and revealing in the treble! I'm in love! Plus I got 50 quid off for no apparent reason. And these are lower-end Dynaudios! One can only wonder what the expensive stuff can do! I have achieved audio contentment! They sound fan-TAS-tic! Got my "proper" pair today. The ones I had until today were on loan from the shop while they got my new ones in. I'm amazed at these speakers, having lived with them for a week now. They really do put in a VERY creditable bass performance for the size. Amazing, really. And the treble! Ooohhhhh, that treble! It's the best treble I've ever heard from a moving-coil speaker - not that I've heard many in recent years, but it is truly _amazing_. Boo-yah! And I'd like to thank Practical Hi-Fi in Manchester for top-class service, too. They got my speaker in very quickly indeed - by last Wednesday. A good experience. They're a good bunch.. The very same. Yeah it was a good experience. These guys charged me £20 for a replacement Project TT cover and delivered the same week. [I suspect at cost.] Also threw in some extra bits and pieces I needed for free. OK their listening room isn't much to speak of, but I've always found them very personable and helpful. Across the road, you-know-who wanted twice as much. More of a boxshifting operation in my experience... Pity The Music Rooms went tits-up. They were committed audiophiles. Yeah I remember them too. In new news: My valve amp has gone tits-up this evening. Well, the left channel has. It's clipping REALLY early. A valve swap from L -- R for all valves kept the fault in the left channel, i.e. it didn't change sides, so I'm hoping a resistor in the left side has burnt or something. PLEASE not a transformer fault. I'm back to my Cyrus II for now, and it sounds VERY unengaging compared to the valve amp, in the treble, to be honest. Screwdrivers out this weekend. PLEASE not a transformer fault. I can't get the thing open! The screws are too tight! Heat 'em up good with a soldering iron and try them when they've cooled back down. (Presuming no plastic in the area, of course.....) BUT luckily I can see down onto some of the PCB if I take the output valves out. Sure enough, there's ONE blown-up resistor visible in the left channel. Not a small one, but not huge. I'd guess it's rated a watt or two. Fit at least 2 or even 3 watt resistors and rip out the other side and balance everything up in L/R pairs - won't cost more than a few quid and will prevent the other side following suit. I guess it's a cathode resistor but I can't tell, cos I can't see much of the PCB. From your earlier post re neighbours, I guess you've got the overhead to spare - why not give a thought to re-biasing while you've got the bonnet up? It'll take the pressure off and you'll never hear the difference..... |

I'll look it up anyway. So it's either 3.3 Ohms or 0.33 Ohms. I'm quite happy cos I suspect and hope that it's be an EASY fix and I'll be back to divine sound again soon! writes Can I just say while I'm here that these speakers are STILL impressing me? They're so _effortless_. No colouration. Sound just _emerges_ as if by magic. No struggle, no "sound of their own", just sound that comes out. The midrange is just to die for, as is the treble. Even when watching TV, I sometimes look at those little solid boxes and think, "That sound is coming from THEM, but it doesn't sound like it is!". If they were a girl, I'd marry her, confident that I wouldn't run off with anyone else, at least for long enough to make it worth it. But as I say, I can't get the damn cover off at the moment, though if I need to, I will try your interesting tip with the soldering iron. Cheers. We seem to have some music interests in common. You may even have been
a couple of rows behind me at the Chameleons Free Trade Hall gig back in the 80s? :-) Well, the Chama are mnew fave band! They rule! Only ton ight I was down the pub/club and the DJ played like 6 Chams songs and I was giving it the air guitar and whatnot! It was cool! Not that great for testing out a hi-fi but ****ing good music! I didn't catch them first time around but I saw them several times after they reformed in 2001-2003. And I was always in the front row, with the bruised chest from the barrier to prove it! Nice one!
