A few months ago I bought a Pioneer DVD player (DV-565A - the all-
formats one) to replace my Sony CDP-750 (1988 vintage) which has become
a bit unreliable tracking the ends of discs. It is multiregion which I
believe means the warranty is between me and the supplier, not Pioneer.

There are quite a lot of problems with the player:

1) It has problems tracking the ends of CDs, like the machine it was
meant to replace...
2) Playing DVDs it occasionally (about every other film played at the
moment) produces what can only be called a digital audio fart: a short,
loud and nasty sound which each time makes my girlfriend question my
wisdom in buying this machine...
3) It turns itself off after 30 minutes of inactivity, which is rude and
unnecessary.
4) It is mind-bogglingly slow in all aspects of disc handling: opening
and closing, detecting the type of disc, getting ready to play, track
selection etc.

1) Is just unacceptable. I presume it is simply a fault, though it may
just be a design with much worse tracking than the Sony fundamentally
has. (?)
2) Is also just unacceptable and can only be a fault. (?)
3) Is a pain in the backside: can it be changed by some firmware magic?
4) Is really the biggest problem, because it makes using the player
really hard to use.

I really do need all formats, and wonder whether I'd be better off
buying a Sony CD/SACD player and a separate DVD/DVD-A player. Any
thoughts? Anyone had similar problems with this player?

I have owned the same player since february this year, without noticing any
of the problems mentioned. Must be a faulty one - take it back to the shop
immediately (money back or new player).
