Default PC Soundcard to Headphones - amp or direct?

I'm trying to get the best from my PC sound and am unsure about something.

I currently have a paid of sennheiser HD600 headphones plugged directly into
my Audigy 2 soundcard, would the sound improve if I added a headphone amp
(and associated cables) in between?

Any advice is appreciated

Ian

I have my ATH-M40fs plugged directly into my SoundBlaster Audigy2 ZS
soundcard and I am satisfied of it. I use it to monitor when I digitalize my
tape cassettes live recording.

Sergio.

Is it loud enough?

The amp can make it louder.

Unless the amp has some other sophisticated signal processing in it that is
optimized for headphones, all it can do in this case is make the sound
louder.

The Boostaroo or the Radio Shack equivalent is a good way to make things
louder. It's really pretty clean.

Don't know specificaly about the Audigy 2 but PC soundcards typically have
rather indifferent quality amplifiers in them.

Using the line out to a small decent external amplifier will assure the best
results.
