how can you have "pure" sounf from digital sound processing ? a CD player is a bad enough abomination of an analouge signal. And dont slag off analouge sources without analouge sound you could not hear anything. Shame that it is routinely recorded and editied in the digital domain these days then ? Everything you buy as CD or vinyl was processed by record companies whose equipment preferences may not match your own. You can't bypass that option. Graham |

But then you can hear the difference in cables. So that explains it. Careful - there are people who claim to tell the difference in solder. "The standard leaded Kester (Sn63/Pb37 Product 24-6337-0027 .031 22swg or Sn62/Pb36/Ag02) with the "44" core sounds good too, but with a slight loss of resolution compared to the Kester SN95. My favorite solder with the "44" core is Kester's Sn95/Ag05 lead free silver solder. My favorite solder with the IA-423 is Johnson's OR-120 organic core version. (Their "rosin" version is awful, BTW.) Most other solders create a "brittle" or bright sound because most rosins perform poorly in regard to high-fidelity interface. If the system is slightly bright, the Kester I mentioned will warm it up a tad. If the system is either warm or accurate, I'd go with the IA-423 Organic Core" So what's your take on the looming requirement to go 'lead free' in electronics. Do you prefer your lead free solder to contain silver or just copper ? For flow-solder processing is it OK to use no-clean flux ? Graham |

I was just quoting somebody who 'hears' different solders - I have no
particular expertise in solder. Having said that - does anyone know where to get decent solder in the UK? I just use 60/40 Andy === Andy Evans === Visit our Website:- http://www.artsandmedia.com Audio, music and health pages and interesting links. |

If there is a large gap between the conductors which you fill with solder, I dunno. But that's bad practice anyway. -- *If they arrest the Energizer Bunny, would they charge it with battery? * Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |
