Cardboard, Sonotube or whatever. A piece I have in the shed was used
as the centre of a roll of carpet. It is 11cm O.D. and 3.5mm wall
thickness. Some large plastic drainpipe would do as well.

You could drill a hole on the top MDF and fill with sand using a funnel.

Adjustable feet are available wherever people are throwing out
industrial shelving (Dexion), IKEA furniture or kitchen units.

thanks for the info. I have been looking at building some stands myself.
So far, my bookshelf speakers are on dining lounge chairs, propped up by
electronics/physics text books!

Either I build some or I buy some. Ideas for a really good sounding base

for a
2 way bookshelf speaker? Don't want to throw money at this, and am happy
scouring yards for metal pipes, bits of concrete etc. I have tools for
metalwork and woodwork. Thanks in advance - Andy

Hi Andy,

One I saw somewhere used with LS5/8s was to use some scaffolding tubes cut
down and polished on a lathe and then used as spacers between some painted
MDF platforms - looked very cool - and of course, custom to requirements.

Cheers, Mike

Making do with some inverted plant pots - on sale at £5 each from

Neat choice. :-)

If you can find alternative pots with side-holes you could also grow house
plants in them at the same time. The compost and plants would help 'damp'
the sound. :-) Might also get you on one of the many 'garden design' TV
programmes. ;-

Slainte,

Jim

Some good ideas. Another idea I've thought of making is two side panels 2
metres high (say 9" front to back), which would grip the speaker on either
side. These would be held together by threaded rods top and bottom. The speaker
would rest on the bottom two (or more) threaded rods, and the top would be held
tight by the other threaded rods. Would look kind of like the letter H from the
front with the speaker in the top of the H. The advantages would be:
a) The speaker would be dampened on both sides (some sort of felt or rbber
could obviosly be inserted between the side panels and the speaker body.
b) You can place your amp under the speakers between the two side panels.

Since this method is totally adjustable, it could be sold as a commercial kit!
Some sort of steadying item would be needed at the bottom - say a slab of
something - onto which the side panels would be anchored. It might, of course
look fairly naff but the panels could be made to look nice - e.g. from
transparent acrylic, and the threaded rods could be chrome plated, with a
marble base - hmmm I'm liking this idea. Andy
