Default Subwoofer or Linn Classik

Hi All

I am considering a Subwoofer for my Linn Classik. I using Cyrus
speakers and thought adding a subwoofer might improve the sound
quality.

Thanks

G,

Budget? Room size? Desired SPL in that room? Is the room open to another?
(apartment etc)

Hi Nath

The room is probably 7 Meters X 5 Meters. Budget: looking at the price
of some of the subwoofers which go upto £1000. I am bit embarrassed to
say around £200 I may spend a bit more if it makes a major improvement
in the sound quality.

I am not sure what SPL is.

Thanks

That is a medium sized room. A £200 subwoofer will not cut it IMO. You've
got a pretty good setup so really need to have decent subwoofer too,
otherwise it'll just make the system sound worse. I would start at £350, I
would recommend looking at those at £500, and great subs start around £700.

A 20-39 PCi should just be under £500 all-in price.

SPL is sound pressure levels, rated as dB. 85dB is average level, 91dB is
loud, 100dB is very loud.

Is this for a Hi-Fi setup or for movies ? Or both? For movies you need
something with a much higher ability for dB output. There's quite a bit of
difference between a 8" sub parping away, a high quality 10", 12", 15" doing
full justice to the soundtrack. I would only use £200 subs in a PC sound
system ;-)

I would recommend you save up. Buy once, and buy quality. Rather than spend
what you've got now, and regret it later.
