I have my eyes on the (non-WRX) Subaru Impreza AWD ...

BWAHAHA! Check the fuel consumption figures for those two. You *can*
squeeze a little more mpg from the 2-litre turbo by tootling gently
around (and where would be the point in that?), but once you put the
hammer down, those highly tuned turbos guzzle fuel at an alarming
rate.

Isn't Tat in Oz?
He could be talking of the non-turbo version, which doesn't drink.
Do the Ozzies give 3 quid to the government for every gallon of petrol?

uhm, I did mention the "(non-WRX) Subaru Impreza AWD" which has a
non-turbo 2.0 litre engine (at least it does in Oz!).

Specs for the "2.0 GX/RX/RV" models (source: Drive.com.au)

Engine Liters / cc 1994
AS 2877 city Fuel economy (l/100km) 9.5
AS 2877 highway Fuel economy (l/100km) 7.3

Specs for the Specs for the Audi A3 3.2 Quattro Ambition DSG model
(source: http://www.carfolio.com/specificatio...ar/?car=120956)

Engine Liters / cc 3189
Fuel Consumption 13.9/7.6/9.9 l/100km urban/extra-urban/overall

(whatever extra urban means)

OK, so 9.5 lires is pretty close to 9.9 litres but Impreza prices start
from AUD$25k compared to the AUD$75k of the 3.2 A3 ...

now ... exactly how far OT has this thread gone?

Yes I was, see my other post.

I think there is a levy on a levy for petrol here ...
unleaded petrol is currently AUD$1.00 to $1.20 per litre ...

(mentioned elsewhere) in for a full service and complete set of new tyres
(all 5) once and got a bill for £1,500 - not a problem then, but I
wouldn't bloody want it now!! Depreciation from new is unbelievable (not
so bad with a wise secondhand buy) and, like Jags (real Jags, not Fords)
they are best not considered unless one has a profitable business to
support them (ie the taxman pays for them)...

Hmmm, I would like to see this one pulled off ...

"I operate a plumbming service and I drive a Jaguar to get to clients
houses, so the Jag is a work expense" ...

Would not be a problem to any competent accountant.....

The cost of the journey *is* a work expense, but the car would have to
go on the books as a company vehicle,

Not necessarily.

and would be taxed accordingly,
making it pretty much uneconomic these days.

Not necessarily.

Most of us at the Bank
just take the salary allowance now.

That would be 'most of them' wouldn't it?

pink gin? Pink grapefruit juice mixed with gin?

No! Angostura bitters swished round the glass before pouring the gin.
Takes away the cloying sweetness of neat gin.

Hmmm, I suspect it's more to with the fact that it was the 'preferred and
traditional' drink of naval officers who wished to drink summat that was
cheaper than whiskey, non 'French' (brandy), more reliable (supplies,
quality) and stronger than madeira while distancing themselves from both the
ratings who drank rum/grog and Hogarthian types who drank it neat in pint
pots.....

Pinkly thinks you are the *sort* of person who drives a Rover!

Through a glass pinkly?? :-)

Oh my deah boy, it's the *only* culla faw one's gin!

A 'sweaty' who drinks gin??? - 'Oo you trying to impress??

(Are you a poof? - You can tell me, I won't say a word.... :-)

Nah, just a geriatric, from an age when gentlemen drank pink gins. A
poof is something you sit on...................

Woah! Too much information Pinky - I suggest you keep that sort of thing to
yourself!!

They don't like it up 'em, cap'n Mannering! Well, some of 'em do.....

Mainwaring, you thicko - *Mainwaring*.....

Please note that the rest of the sentence was also phoneticised, it's
not my fault if the English can't spell their own names! In fact,
please explain why Wymondham in Leicestershire is not pronounced the
same as Wymondham in Norfolk......................

Scots - all **** and wind....

Yeah right - that's the kind of comment you'd expect from a typical
English **** cowering behind his keyboard.........

Like I say - all **** and wind....!! :-)

Recursion - see recursion.............

(Until they've had a few drinks, then it's all **** and wind, shouting
and
falling down a lot!)

Sorry mate, that's the English - we Scots *never* fall down - Olympic
gold guaranteed if drinking ever gets recognition!

I wouldn't be so sure - where I come from (Hertfordshire) they have all
their teeth out in their teens to significantly improve 'flow rates'.....

I thought that was just the result of calling Scots bad names but not
having the brains to be sat behind a keyboard at the time.......

Hardly - no Scots brave enough to live in Hertfordshire that I am/was aware
of.....

(Talking *ale* here - not sappy little shorts! ;-)

But you *are* a sappy little short! :-)

How do you know? You *significantly* crapped out of an invitation (which
still stands) to come and find out for yourself!

Welsh - surly bleeders with a penchant for sheep....

Well, that's true enough! :-)

Which just leaves the 'Irish'....... :-)

Sure and wouldn't we all like to leave the Oirish.............

Talking of which, I wonder what happened to the 'Bonnie Ronnie'
(Mack)....???

Talking of poofs, isn't he a junk shop owner? Er, sorry - 'antique
dealer'........

Tucked his tail between his legs and ****ed off back to the shop to
con a few more tourists, apparently.

Or grew a brain and wisely consigned this group to where it properly
belongs......

ah, OK. I saw a "pink gin" at of all places, an "alternative rock" concert
earlier this year. It was gin with pink grapefruit juice.

No mention of gin with bitters (or maybe even gin at all?) in any of the
Hornblower books I have read. Of course, rum gets more than a mention!
