No I'm not - both valve and ss are coloured because componants add
various colorations.


Rather a sweeping generalisation, I'm afraid.

My own experience is that I have made and tested amps where I, and others,
could not tell when some components were changed. OTOH I've made others
where people could. All this showed was that your statement may be valid on
some occasions, but not others.
