Arcam dilemma

I still have my trusty old Arcam 5 CD and it's still sounding very
sweet through a Delta 290 amp and Tannoy Mercury speakers. A vast
improvement was made to the sound last year by changing to QED Qunex
2 interconnects and QED Silver Anniversary speaker cables. Wow, what
a difference in ten years of cable development making the system
sound like a newly upgraded one.
What cables were you using before?
The interconnects were some high quality OFC the make of which I forget as I
lost the packaging but supplied by a good hi-fi dealer. They were
considerably thicker than the normal bog standard phono leads but nowhere
near the QED ones. The speaker cables where the QED 79 strand which was
fairly standard over ten years ago as the Silver Anniversary ones are now.
Interestingly someone I know also replaced his 79 strand with the Silver
Anniversary cables shortly after me but he changed back as he didn't like
the sound. He told me that for him the new cables made it sound too bright
at the high end for him. That's why you need to listen to anything as
everyone has different perceptions of what they like a system to sound.
Personally I wouldn't go back but I have noticed that it emphasises the
master tape hiss in very old recordings.
