Not trolling, but were they mastered using digital and SS technology?

Yes. The important bit is the digital mastering to get rid of the 'curse'
of analogue tape. Really well engineered valve amps throughout the chain
wouldn't have really been an issue, but of course by then they'd well
since disappeared, since consols required more and more channels they'd
have imposed rather too many restrictions.

Quarter and half inch analogue tape is still used as a mix format so it
is still possible to find vinyl that is pure analogue - although this
probably isn't the norm. However, the main idea behind mixing to
analague tape is to obtain some of that tape compression effect that is
missing with digital.

Cheers.

James.

I'd say it's a rarity these days.

Quite. Although you'd have thought someone would have produced a
compressor designed to give a similar effect where it's needed without the
other drawbacks.
It's rather a broad 'cure' for a specific requirement - stuffing the
entire mix through analogue tape.
