I have a set of electrostatics (esl57s) that I have owned for about 15
years now. I am considering selling them but have no real idea what they
are worth. Watching Ebay they seem to go for wildy varying prices. Mine
are in excellent condition with close serial numbers and original owners
manuals. Anyone care to hazard a value? they are in regular use with a
33/303 combo( I also nave a set of 22/IIs in need of restoration due to
some 'expert' fiddling with them. They were in good working order till
said expert started to 'restore' them)

They are superb, only after some rearrangement of the house we just don 't
have room for them anymore. In my heart I don't want to sell, in my head I
realise that I can't keep them as I have nowhere for them to live. I would
rather them go to someone who would appreciate them and look after them
than stick them in the garage until some mishap ruins them. They are in
superb condition and sound awesome. I consider myself lucky to have had 15
years worth of pleasure from them.

I am similarly fortunate as my wife prefers the appearance of ESL's to
conventional speakers - as well as liking the music. :-)

lines, the sort of amplification and room sizes necessary to help them
(say 63s) work properly?

I've only ever heard Quad electrostatics twice - once in a hifi 'shop'
(the old Laskey's in Birmingham, a huge room), and once at someone's
home. In the shop the music sounded superb, as good as I've heard, but
at this bloke's house I found it very 'thin' - inoffensive but lacking
detail and weight at frequency extremes. The room was probably 25'x15',
and we were about 15' from the speakers. I didn't recognise any of the
kit, but he was very rich - I'd guess it was 'decent'.

I bought a pair of black esl57's serials #~30,000 off Ebay
a couple of years ago for £400. Carriage is a difficulty and I
arranged a half way pickup point. They are superb.

I suspect this is about the rate for a decent, late pair.

Have they ever been serviced? In my experience of these, most require some
of the units replaced every five years or so, if used with 'enthusiasm'.
