Cool Edit 2000
"Ian Pollard" wrote in message ... Hi I was wondering if there is anyone out there who could assist with problems that I am having with Cool Edit 2000. There is no support any more from Syntrillium and Adobe are not interesrted. I can record alright but havent found a way of adjusting the record level low enough to permit undistorted play in Winamp. I can do it all OK with Gold Wave but would like to get to grips with Cool Edit. Any help appreciated or if this is the wrong forum for this question, I apologise. You cannot control the input and output levels on CEP, but you can find info on how to adjust the levels from your sound card by going to CEP help menu, and typing in "level" Good luck. You adjust the level of recorded files in CE using effects, amplitude, amplify. |

Ian You could try looking up any questions on the Adobe Audition site. There are very few practical differences between CEP and Audition v1. Just seen that v1.5 is out, I'll be looking into that soon, and if there are big changes, I'll report back. I do wonder why Winamp is protesting. If your levels aren't clipped, then you should be saving a valid .wav or .mp3 or whatever, and it should play all right. Have I missed something? Andrew |

You adjust the level of recorded files in CE using effects, amplitude, amplify. But that can only be done once the recording is in the sequencer. If the recording is overmodulated, there is no benefit in reducing the level after recording. You cannot adjust the record input within CEP itself. I have just checked this from the hardback beta-testers' manual. Iain |

I think that Ian means that he is having trouble recording via a sound card into the sequencer. Iain |

Ian -- Ian Pollard//Wooler//Northumberland//UK Ian, I love Cool Edit 2000, but on this subject, it has it's limits. I prefer to 'hand' record to MP3 by input from my hi-fi, rather than rip. Some CDs though, even with the soundcard input level control on the floor at 0 decibels, the level is still too high. Then I have to use CDEX, which allows me to set limits before the rip. Dave W. |

This is possible since Winamp has gain and equalization features. You cannot adjust the record input within CEP itself. Right, if you can adjust input levels at all, you do it with the audio interface's mixer applet. |
