I did not know this, thanks, I'll check my cables. They are not actually
lamp flex but neither are they very expensive I think I paid about 50p a
metre for the stuff.
The 5% of the speaker's nominal impedance is the loop of the cable, so
disconnect it entirely, short one end, and measure between the other end.
This would be about 0.4 ohm for most 8 ohm speakers, or 0.3 ohm for 6 ohm.
A cheap DVM might not be very accurate with such a small resistance.
In practice in a domestic environment 1mm cable will better this. Maplin
do a decent speaker cable for well under a quid a metre which is 2.5mm and
will cover most setups.
