It does prompt the question of what would happen if I connect the
optical digital out on a SkyPlus box to the optical digital in
on my PC sound card. Anyone tried it with either stereo or 5.1?

You'd get a constant 2 x 16-bit x 48000 = 1.536 Mbps constant bit
rate, but that's linear PCM being transferred across S/PDIF. The bit
rate I'm referring to is the raw compressed MPEG bit rate. See:

http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/in...bit_rate_table

because it is the bit rate that sets the nominal audio quality level.

You *******! I'm thinking of getting Sky+ now!

Personally, I hope that the BBC, ITV and C4 launch a Freesat platform,
so then people don't have to pay £10 per month (or whatever it is) or
have a Sky preimium subscription package just to be able to use a PVR!

BTW, if you want to archive radio recordings at the best quality the
best way of doing this is getting a cheap PC card, such as:

http://www.sateuropa.co.uk/product_o...tid=1&subcat=7

but you'll need a dual-output LNB as well, unless you can put up with
using a priority switch like this:

(which limits what can be watched simultaneously on 2 receivers)
