Default Too faraway for Faraday?

A friend of mine has kindly let me photograph* the innards of his AN Kit

(There are 6 more pix on that page, if anyone is interested.)

He has incorporated a number of dubious (IMO - but then WTF do I know?)
'tweaks' including what he describes as a 'Faraday Cage' over the
transformers - see the mesh.

He is older and much wiser than me but I (politely) queried that the mesh is
actually acting as a 'Faraday Cage' - more like a simple bit of screening.

Am I right? - More importantly, is that bit of mesh doing any good at all??
Would a transformer (or the environment) benefit from a Faraday Cage anyway?

TIA

* (For my 'apprentice', who is an Audio Note fan! ;-)
