A lack of Frank Ifield ALWAYS helps.

No argument there....

All that stuff you are naming is heavily processed, and not great for
assessing carts - there is no real "original" sound you can compare it
to. Some classical - not heavy orchestral - perhaps a chamber
orchestra piece would be good.

OK, can do - narrow it down a bit and steer me to summat you'll be
comfortable with.

(Missed the boat tonight though....)

I think that is narrow enough - I don't know the contents of your
collection. You can find something of that general type.

Frank Bridge heavily processed? Surely not.

I suspect if you had named at least a composer or preferred instrument I
might have come up with summat - there's over 3000 LPs here!! ;-)

OK, I'll sort summat a bit later on, probably a nice bit of Schoob - I don't
have the 'airtime' atm - Swim's 'working at home' today!!

Well "chamber orchestra" pretty much defines the instuments...

Schubert would be good.

What I've heard is.

Then you must look out for:

String Quartets in e minor. ( Allegri String Quartet). Decca ZRG 714
Sonata for Cello and Piano (Rostropovich and Britten) Decca SXL 6426

Also the songs, performed by Kathleen Ferrier and by Peter Pears
are a joy.

I am just going to give them a whirl:-)

I can't deal with Kathleen Ferrier. She sings horribly flat, and her
vowel sounds are appalling.

My problem with going out for the music, though is that if it is
available on CD, I would always buy it that way. If it is not
available on CD, it is unlikely to be still available on vinyl.

Amazon list 183 CDs of Frank Bridge - no need to go anywhere, let you
'mouse' fetch it for you!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...798481-5234855

(Plenty of Naxos at 4.99!! :-)

Exactly - but then I won't be testing carts.

Hang on, I wasn't anyway!
