Foight da flab....
Regarding those Happy Wanderers
At the end of the '60s in the Julie Christie/Dirk Bogarde film ?"Darling",
there is a
London scene featuring this strolling trio. Very droll: banjo, dual rhythm
spoons,
washboard, finger cymbals, kazoo or a saxaphone, etc. No real talent, but
just
some needy blokes (you'd think).
Talk about *deja vu* - the Exit doors of the small West End cinema opened, I
with the downstairs audience walked out into the street, and guess what we
encountered at 9pm?.... the same
tlink-tlunk, clickety-click Happy Wanderers busking a traditional tune on
the pavement alongside us in the drizzle for a few hand-outs!
(I think they wore peak caps and dark blazers + strads.) It made me
double-take because of their blatancy.
There, the incident did impress me.

Well, I hope you dropped a quid in his hat, because there is
absolutely no way to tell from that recording.

A producer I knew of in London used to always stop to
listen to buskers. He said that he had found some good artists
that way. (Remember the Happy Wanderers who used to trudge
up and down Oxford Street in the 60's. They made a great
deal of money at weddings and garden parties)
The producer never walked away mid performance, but when
the busker had finished, he would push something into their top
pocket, and say "have a drink on me"
It was not until the performer checked later that he found
a tea.bag.
