Absolutely. For $1500, bose will perform at about the level of a $150
receiver
tied to 5 $30 speakers and a $50 subwoofer. Not a great deal unless
you're
looking for that special feelin of pride that comes from having spent too
much.

I'm alway amused to see 'Bose-Bashing' posts - I have only ever owned one
Bose product (a centre speaker for an early AV system) which was no more
expensive than any comparable product, was tiny and sounded absolutely fine.
I have heard a Bose 'lifestyle' CD system that I thought sounded quite OK
and at least as good as another 'mini sytem' I have ever heard and a friend
of mine has heard one of the Waveform Radios and said he thought it sounded
very good indeed and doesn't know what all the hoohah is about! (He owns
plenty of high-end kit including the highly sought-after Trio tuner that
everybody wants but I can't remember the model number of!)

Why does Bose catch all the ****? - There are plenty of other 'expensive'
makes out there and plenty of other *overhyped* products that don't match up
to the manufacturer's claims or the purchaser's expectations!!

??

I think it's a bit suspect when they put the ads in the Sunday papers
and colour supplements with fairly extravagant claims but no prices
mentioned

Sign in Miller's Music Shop, Cambridge (pianos etc.) that is almost
certainly still the "The Quality Remains Long After The Price Has Been
Forgotten"...!!

No, it's more like they're thinking "if you have to ask the price you're not
the sort of customer we're looking for"!

That would suggest that you think every product advertised without a
price is suspect. Or, every product advertised in Sunday papers without
a price.

Is that truly the case?

Well, I'd love to see a law enacted that said that any advert for a
product that failed to state the price could be used as evidence that the
item was FOC, and must be supplied to people on that basis. :-)

Alas, I fear the above would get into a muddle with the EU/UK laws against
price maintainance. :-/

Slainte,

Jim
