OK, another 'Honky Tonk' comparison...

Dear Keith,
I've been reading this one all the way through and was surprised to see
that the homemade Buschhorns (Pinkies) are sounding better than the Loths
even to ears other than yours, no doubt the Bh's will sound even better in
a few months time.
I would have smiled at that not so long ago, but I have to say - the Pinkies
are *definitely' filling out'!! And that's not me - I've hardly listened to
them properly yet, I do a lot of my listening 'askance'!! A good test will
be when my local Golden Ears mate hears them again (almost certainly next
week) - he will know in a flash!! :-)
I looked up the price of a pair of the Loth's and found it to be $600,
guess you could knock a nought off for the price of making the Buschhorns
:-)
Not quite - more like a hundred quid for the makings, if not a little bit
more with *all* the knick-knacks like terminal trays, stuffing and
Dedsheet...??
The UK price for the Loths was (is?) 400 quid, AFAIK and the Loth range goes
up to 14K or thereabouts - for a bit of homebrew to hold its end up against
any product from this sort of manufacturer is no meen feet in my book...!!
:-)
Great idea that test. This news group will soon change to uk.rec.diyaudio
I've been lobbing comparison stuff like this on my Show N Tell for a long
time now - it's useful and it's fun (and also optional....). I never trust
my own ears once the sound is in the 'not ****e/at least OK' bracket - I
leave it to better ears than mine to tell me wot's wot! On that subject, I
heard both these tracks on my son's ss equipment (which homogenises
everything nicely) earlier this evening and they sounded very good. He
picked 'Orleans A' as the better in a heartbeat and I'm pretty certain that
was the Pinkies!! ;-)
As to the group? There's no shortage of designer/constructor skills here and
bags of experience and knowledge - I've been 'learning in public' here for a
number of years now and it's been damned handy!! (Can't be *that* bad when
'old hands' come round to hear the kit time and time again...!! :-)
