Default Need to find a good carpenter.

Hi there.

I have been wanting to have some speaker cabinets build by a carpenter
for a while and have decided I might give it a go, or at least try and
establish the price for such a project.

The cabinet is a relatively simple small scale transmission line, but I
would like it build with some good materials and in a really nice
veneer, something like the stuff used on B&W Signature series. Anyone
know a carpenter to reccomend? It would be extra good if said carpenter
was in South Wales.

Also a metal workshop that would do a run of say 5 pieces of a custom
design enclosure machined from alu or steel would be very usefull.

Best regards

Go mad - have a go at building them yourself. Do it in MDF first and then
repeat them in a bit of decent treewood if you like them. Don't
underestimate how hard (or expensive) it is to replicate the superb
(perfect) finish we've come to expect on commercial speakers these days....

Any decent (CNC?) shop will do it - but at a cost and a time to suit
themselves. (Think 'second mortgage' here... ;-)

What you need is a cabinet maker, not a carpenter.
Quite a different thing:-)

Try http://www.castle.uk.com/

Also, there used to be firm called Lockwood,
in Harrow, Midd'x who made the cabinets for
Tannoy studio loudspeakers, before Tannoy
set up their own prof division.

Lockwood may still be in business, but if not
I would have thought that any reputable cabinet
maker could provide you with what you need.

Try a local college. You may find the workshop tech guy is a highly skilled
craftsman, and can handle your woodworking and metalworking requirements.
These guys get paid maybe £10 an hour ...
