Audio Innovations silver speaker cable
Just thought I'd share this with you...
Have just upgraded the cable in my second (AV) system from Gale XL105 to
Audio Innovations Silver Ultra Micro for the centre and HF and Ultra 100
for LF (Gale 4 and Centre 2). To put it bluntly, it's made a bloody
amazing difference!
A friend who was round at the time I switched the cables over said it
was like a veil had been lifted from over the speakers. Soundstaging is
much wider, with much more depth.
It's also closed up the gap between the second system (Yamaha DSP-AX620,
Gale 4, Centre 2, 2i rears) and the main system upstairs (Arcam AVR-250,
Mordaunt-Short Avant 908/905C).
Worth spending £25 I reckon.

It is always a brilliant revelation when, all of a sudden, your speakers
are no longer wired up out of phase.

Cynicism knows no bounds... :-)
I can assure you, they were all wired up correctly and in phase before.

No they weren't. The effect you describe is precisely that of rectifying an
out-of-phase system - in fact it could not be better described. I've known
several people do precisely this.

Then you shouldn't have been using telephone wire before.

As the trains go over, in differing directions, the phase alters.
It's a bit like plug hole water, in Russian gaols.

Ok, how do I put this...
The side of the cable with + signs on it was connected to the RED
binding post, at both the amplifier and speaker, on all 5 runs of cable
(L and R speakers are bi-wired). So... not out of phase.
The replacement cable... is connected with the side with + signs to the
RED binding post on both amp and speaker.
I can assure you, the speakers were most certainly not connected out of
phase before. I know what an out of phase connection sounds like!

I wouldn't describe XL105 (105 strand OFC) cable as "telephone wire"...
it's actually pretty good budget speaker cable.
My point was simply that upgrading from a budget cable to something a
bit better produced a significant improvement on even a fairly modest
system, in this case a Yamaha DSP-AX620 with Gale 4/Centre 2 speakers.
And so far by pointing this out, I've been informed that my system "must
have been wired out of phase" (I can assure you it wasn't!) and that I
was previously running on "telephone wire"...
No wonder so many people end up buying crappy mini systems instead of a
proper hi-fi. :-/
