Default Anyone recommend second-hand speakers?

Hi

I am looking for a pair of large-ish speakers on the second hand
market.

Can anyone suggest a pair suitable for listening to music of all types?

Is it necessary to match the speakers to a particular amp? I have
nothing at all at the moment and have been reading about mission 753s
and Naim amps.

Sources would be mp3/CD and maybe even vinyl.

I cannot afford very expensive kit.

Regards

You can get a pair of Spendor BC1s for around £150. I've had a pair for
30 years and have no intention of changing them.

Maybe you'd think of making your own, start with something simple;

Maybe he should know that not everyone agrees with the theory behind the
Voigt Pipe.
Transmission lines, bass-reflex and sealed boxes are equally valid.
Ebay and local "Cash Converters" are good places to look for second-hand
speakers.

Out of interest, what does "agrees with the theory" do you mean the
basic physics is wrong, or do you mean its interpretation?

Take a look at all the "needle" designs on the web. On one side you have
a transmission line that's too short, on the other an improperly loaded
horn with a high cutoff frequency, and in most cases the mouth is mostly
blocked turning it into a bass-reflex that's tuned too low.
Why not just build a bass-reflex that can be easily analysed and tuned?

If you are still thinking of making a pair of your own, then you might
consider this as well;

Designed by the same chap as did the Needles.
