Can't recall 'assurances' from any manufacturer that their DAC is

The people who've used (and been disappointed with) hard disk jukeboxes in
the past (of which I'm one) are kind-of hoping that the 640H won't be
sub-basic...
That's just the loader, not the actual transport. In many cases,
they're separately available.
In most cases the transport is sold as a complete unit. This is certainly
the way the two major suppliers of audio CD transports (Sony and Philips)
operate. You buy the transport (which is the platter, servos, control unit)
and bolt it into the case of your choosing.
Your suspicion is wrong.
Please post the link - I'm interested.
Bear in mind that a stock CD-ROM drive can
read data perfectly at 40x, it should be obvious that nothing more is
needed for 1x CD replay.
Sure it can read data perfectly at 40x. The reason Meridian have used a
drive such as this is so that they can, by running the disk at
faster-than-realtime, re-read parts of the disk should it encounter errors
and for fast layer-switching. Having said all that - and listen, because
this is the important bit - Meridian have used their own ATAPI control
software to step the normal running speed of the drive down to 2x (with the
capability of going faster) so that the machine doesn't sound like a
hovercraft. Therein lies my point. Cheapo hard drive jukebox with a basic
CD-ROM drive and no trickery makes for a very noisy CD player - I've had
first hand experience of this (the Perception Digital PD480 is a classic
example).
You have absolutely *zero* reason for such a claim, since you haven't
actually seen the thing in operation - and nor has anyone else, of
course.
There are reasons for this thread, which were outlined in the original post.
The main reason being that many people would like to feedback to Cambridge
Audio about what may turn out to be a cracking product. However, there is a
feeling that CA have pulled up the shutters on this one and aren't
responding to customer requests.
Is there a reason for not using wireless in a domestic installation?
Yes - wiring is easy. Why add complication?
Because wireless (for most of us) isn't that difficult..?
Granted, these are criticisms of a product which is yet to be released;
the point of this post was to raise issues (both actual and potential)
with the 640H (and to make a point about their removal of their forums).
You have yet to show that there *are* any real issues.
Maybe I can refresh your memory:

So that's two issues which you've actually agreed with me on.
