Default Annoying "ticking" on my hifi

This is driving me nuts! I borrowed a Sky box from someone and get
exactly the same problem. What I discovered however that it's not
merely having the box plugged into the mains that causes the ticking,
it has to have the cable from the dish connected too. No other cables
are connected. So it's not my Sky box specifically, and my Sky+ box
does not do this.

I've also tried a (rather basic) surge protected trailing socket with
no joy. I guess I have no option but to investigate a more expensive
filtered type such as the one from Maplin, but that's £40. Ouch.
Anyone know of a cheaper option?

We used to live in an area about 5 miles from a R.A.F. base, and had a
ticking problem as well as a "blip" on the tv screen every few seconds,
which was apparently caused by some sort of radar interference being picked
up by the aerial. Everyone in the area had the same problem but difficult to
get anything done about it. Could it be that?
