Boxing the compass....
Last night we* learnt a few things....
We learned that, if you are stranded in a desert and your GPS gadget is on
the fritz, you can determine Due North by pointing the hour hand of your
watch at the Sun and that bisecting the angle between it and the 12 o'clock
mark will point you Due South**. (Due North is 180 deg the other way....)
Make the necessary allowances for BST &c., naturally....
We also learnt that Firewood Horns do *not* like SS amps and that if you
wick a 120wpc SS amp up too high the drivers will go West - simultaneously,
instantly, irrevocably....
We also learnt that Firewood Horns sound amazing on valves and SETs in
particular, but sound like poo on SS amps***....
(We also learnt that the halfway mark on a 4 wpc SET is as loud as the
halfway mark on a 120 wpc SS amp, but let's not go there... ;-)
* That's me and one other who posts here - not 'we' as in some sad act
desperately trying to engender/imply support for his own crackpot
theories/opinions....
** If it's an English Desert (East Essex, for example) and there is no Sun,
then you are ****t...
***Said it a couple of million times now - if it's horns it's valves, if
it's valves it's horns, or simply don't bother and SETs is best (by far)...
;-)

Well, if you have any sense, while the sun is up, you are hidden out
of the way, not going anywhere and trying to stay cool. Once the sun
sets you have either Polaris or the Southern Cross to show you North
and South. The best use for your watch is to flog to some passing
Bedouin to get him to take you to the nearest hotel.

Strange conclusion - I think you will find that those poor little
drivers don't appreciate 120W, whatever they come from. I did the
reverse myself once, with a Marshall 100W valve amp plugged into a far
too small speaker. I thought I was being very careful, but a lump of
mains hum while plugging in the guitar lead made for a very brief
sound, some smoke, and no further action.
We also learnt that Firewood Horns sound amazing on valves and SETs in

Think you just wanted the one asterisk there. ;-)

Probably true - once your speakers are hitting the end stops, it don't
much matter how hard they are slamming.

No, it's a bit more serious than that - the Tauregs are attacking the fort
and you've got get help before they overrun your comrades, steal their
watches and cut their bollies off!! (There's no time to lose - the
Commandant's already propping up dead bodies on the battlements and giving
them rifles as it is!!)
The best use for your watch is to flog to some passing

They ain't Bedouin, they're Tauregs - see above....

Kinda depends which desert (and the plural of Tuareg is Targui). My
stomping ground is the Gulf, and in the empty quarter they are
definitely Bedouin. Still cut yer bollies off, though.
But if fort soixante-neuf is really under attack, you'd better hope
that Charles Hawtrey can just get there in time.

Dictionary.com gives the plural of Tuareg as Tuaregs and Google references
say a Targui is a member of the Tuareg race, but if you Google on it also
says it is the plural. Both these references concern a board game (?), so it
passes into shrugged shoulder country, AFAIAC...

(They're all toerags to me, but I expect I could do time for even *thinking*
that.... :-)

In this part of the world, we navigate by ant-hills facing south (if it
is absolutely necessary to navigate at all) By day, we prefer to
catch and eat salmon and drink the Absolut. But we do know enough
about survival to never eat any bug or insect from the underneath
of a leaf, and to wear a bell around the neck when walking in deep
forest to warn the bears of one's approach.

I have just sent a runner with a cleft stick to a forward post of
The King's Own Herbaceous Borderers, requesting a detachment
of riflemen with skirmishing AVO CT160's to come to your
immediate assistance.

:-)))
In the Scandinavian country areas most villages have a group of
hunters, who cull deer, elk, and in some areas wolves and bears.
Once when in sauna., I asked one of the hunters, "Are there no
ladies in your group" He replied, "there used to be, then we trained
the dogs!"
