Thanks for the advice

The point about the 20 songs was we didn't want to do them all in one
day (as you pointed out it would be impossible) with the intention of
disuading anyone from suggesting we go and hire a studio..

I will definitely keep an eye on the levels.

We've had a discussion and we might try using the Peavey mixer with its
two outputs. At least it has 8 mic preamps. I'm going to try and mix
the drum kit down to stereo and then record the other instruments
individually. I might even learn something

And thanks, I'll definitely take a big note book and make sure
everything gets noted down!
