You've got a new piece of kit. You've set it up, run it in (or not), it's
sat on your choice of support, your comfy chair is waiting and you're ready
to play some music to see just how it sounds. So what's the first piece of
music you play?

I would play some female vocal music; classical because it is much
less likely to have been processed through compressors, reverb,
'enhancers', etc. Reproducing the human voice well is very difficult
because our hearing is very sensitive in this area, for obvious
evolutionary reasons.

When I recently auditioned a pair of Quad 11L speakers I used a
recording of Bernarda Fink in Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo by Antonio
Caldara.
