Default Pioneer PL-620 Turntable - Replacement Stylus/Cartridge/Turntable?

I'm currently in a 'let's see what's in my old vinyl collection' mood and am
using my ageing Pioneer PL-620 direct drive turntable (presently behaving
itself with quartz lock). I suppose it's something of a budget turntable but
the replacement stylus (PN-3MC for the moving coil PC-3MC cartridge) seems
awfully expensive (£65 via Musonic). I can't be sure of the condition of the
existing stylus and I don't have a microscope to examine it and I'm now
wondering about a replacement. I'm thinking about three possible options:

1. Buy a replacement stylus for the existing cartridge.
2. Replace the cartridge to maybe reduce ongoing stylus replacement costs
and perhaps improve sound quality.
3. Replace the whole turntable with something like a Pro-Ject Debut Mk3 with
an Ortofon OM5e cartridge fitted (bearing in mind that the Pioneer sometimes
throws a wobbler and loses speed lock).

The existing PC-3MC cartridge specs a

Type - Moving coil type
Stylus - 0.5 mil diamond (PN-3MC)
Output Voltage - 2.5mV (1kHz, 50mm/s Peak velocity, LAT)
Tracking Force - 1.7g to 2.3g (proper 2g)
Frequency Response - 10 to 32,000Hz
Recommended Load - 50 kiloOhm
Weight - 3.1g

The Pioneer manual states that replacement cartridges may weight between 3
and 8g. The overhang of the polymer graphite tonearm is 15.5mm (dunno if
that information is relevant LOL).

Thoughts/advice please!

Howard
