Last time I heard Lowther drivers, I had tears in my eyes, too.

From the pain!

What have they done to my music?

A sensible question here (for a change) why have you placed
the tube amp on top of the larger speaker box? Won't the
vibration shake the hot filaments loose and do damage?

Cheers TT

He enjoys the microphony enriching the music by vibrating the grids and
anodes? :P

Cheers,

The amps are on top of the speakers because I'm short of space. They aren't
in use, but occasionally I have used one without shifting it - no apparent
effect whatsover. The speakers are 55 kg apiece - couple the 16+ kg amp to
that and you can see it's not going to be easily unsettled, the speakers
don't vibrate that much!

Now one for you:

Why did you change '****er' to 'f***er'...??

If you didn't like it, why didn't you just snip it...??

Keith G,
Can you be more specific about what you like/dislike about the
Lowthers.?
I have tried many of the wizzer cone type speakers but not Lowthers.Of
course all these things need a woofer or subwoofer to sound
bearable. There is no way that 1mm cone excursion can give proper bass[3
or 4 mm can]-even in a back loaded horn.

The Goodmans Axiom 80s are the real deal.Forty years old but in many
ways still the best cone speaker made.

You didn't ask. But they were quite good in their day. Unfortunately that
day was half a century ago. But even then, the cognoscenti added a
tweeter. Kelly ribbons were a popular choice.

Isn't it the hobby that counts - not how good they are?

Not particularly, that blokie whose 'furniture' pic I showed you built his
Buschhorns in about the same time!! (Mind you, he's a proper hobbyist
*carpenter*....!! ;-)

Also, bear in mind my efforts so far have been investigative 'practice and
prototypes' - you don't get to hear these things until you build a pair and
I ain't gonna spend months honing a pair to perfection if I don't already
know what they will sound like!! I'll be taking a bit more time on a 'final
pair' (?) shortly, as I have already promised Plowie!

Two people *getting into it* (ie not dilling around like farts in a trance)
can bash a pair of these out in a couple of days - left in the raw or with a
simple finish, which can be finalised any time in the future.....

Here is a better pic of the 'family':

http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/infi...nfidelio13.JPG

(I've had me bloody camera on 'manual focus' for gawd knows how long and
didn't know it!! :-)

Note the 'Fidelios' are an almost *perfect* size!! :-)
