AFAIAC all speakers have their shortcomings and I guess it's down to the
individual what compromises they're prepared to make. One thing I'm
finding
interesting is the 'retro migration' where it seems a lot of people are
falling off the current stuff and trying to recreate the sound they had
some
decades ago with speakers from those eras....???

(No idea what the megabucks high end stuff sounds like, needless to
say....)

Keith G,

Yes ,you can still enjoy back loaded horns.I was just pointing out
their weaknesses-and every speaker seems to have them. It's just about
finding the one with the set of weaknesses that you don't mind.

Yes.

[I think
that is how women describe men.]

Don't know/don't care...

Acoustic bass tends to sound superb on them, and if you listen to a lot
of jazz they are unbeatable in this regard.

How very apposite - right this minute I am (oops, was..) listening to Bach's
Toc and Fug (A Minor, not the other one) and had retired from my room to
experience the bass on my Jerichos/EX3s from a greater distance. (My room
simply is too small.) It really is so musical!

(I'm having second thoughts about a sub now...!!??)

From where I'm sitting now, there *is* an organ playing in the room behind
me!! (The *King* of all Musical Instruments without any shadow of doubt, in
my book!!)

The interest in hankering for a sound from the past is an interesting
one.Audio Karma would not exist without it.
I have bought a few things that I used to enjoy in the past, but on
reaquaintence I have realised that they were not as good as I
remembered.

Yes. Always crosses my mind when people say they are trying to find the
exact same kit they had 30 years ago....

Having said that though there are some great old products
that have an innate rightness about them.Like the BBC designed
,Bextrene coned speakers of the 70s.Flawed by modern standards but
probably,in many ways,still more enjoyable.

Again, yes - I had a pair of Rogers BBC Studio Monitors which were very nice
in their own way (kinda gone a different way now) - until I blew them up
with a stupid, powerful SS amp ('High Current' Parasound)!! Best thing that
ever happened to me in the audio sense - drove me off in the opposite
direction into the best sound I've ever had, from sweet little amps that
would be pushed to make 8 watts on a good day with the wind behind them!!

;-)
