However I would suggest trying some of the 'BBC Music Magazine' cover CDs.
These are often recorded to give an excellent sense of the instruments in
the real acoustic of the venue/studio. They have the added advantage that
you can often get tickets to go to performances at those venues to form
your own impression of what performances sound like in them. The CDs
generally give the details of the time and location of the recording.
They are also inexpensive and come with a 'free magazine' attached. :-)
