Cabn anyone help. After owning our Sky freeview system for over a
year, last night we were watching Eurosport via our DVD
recorder(Sony0when the programme went off then returned with a much
weakened signal. We now experience a very poor recording (very snowy)
when recording from any station. We have tried unsuccessfully to retune
both TV and DVD recorder, but problem still exists. We want to know if
the problem is with the sky pace box or with our dvd recorder. The dvd
plays tapes in excellent condition, but does not record from the tv
channels without the 'snow'.Can anyone shed light for us.
Can you watch real-time programmes without this problem, and is it
only the recorded versions that suffer this? If so, then your DVD
recorder has turned its toes up, and it is probably cheaper and easier
to just buy a new one than have this one fixed. In all probability it
is still in warranty and can be changed that way.
If the picture is bad when viewing normally, then something is broken
in your satellite system. Has the dish shifted in the wind? If not, it
is either the LNB on the dish or the set top box. You will only find
out by substituting known good ones.

Thanks Don,answer to your question. YES, realtime is fine, the problem
seems to only happen if we use the dvd recorder to either watch
realtime through its own tuner,or if we try and record from tv
channels either live or timed. Our Sony dvd recorder is only 15 months
old, seems to be a waste of money eh? Thanks again.
I concur with Don's earlier suggestion that something has moved. I am
assuming your DVD recorder is recording analogue TV and/or Freeview
terrestrial. Either way, if the aerial has moved and/or the feeder has
broken, terminals corroded etc, then this will do what yours does. I would
ask a neighbour who's aerial is pointing the same direction as yours to let
you connect it to their aerial feed and see if it's then OK.
If it's a satellite DVD recorder, then it could also be the dish direction,
LNB and/or downlead.
Whichever, I would determine that the aerial is OK before blaming the box.
Good luck
