"Krooborg". The word traces back to the Middiot, the one that holds court
over on RAO. I suggest you speak to him yourself Iain. As he's an idiot
you can speak to him in his native tongue, which is idiotese. I'm not as
fluent in that peculiar dialect as you are, Iain.

The fan of yours who writes to me, calls you "Kruborg" (he's an
American of Danish descent). Perhaps the joke is too subtle for you:-)

was "born again", found the Lord and took up the tambourine:-)

I watched an interview of a very pretty young singer/songwriter on Danish
TV a couple of nights ago. She appeared charming and sophisticated,
despite her having been involved in some pretty questionable drug related
situations in the past. The interviewer said "Tell us about your early days"
She smiled sweetly and replied "Oh, you mean *before* I was a virgin?

Yup, you can judge people by their reactions to trivial typos.

Alternatively, you can form a fairly accurate impression of a person
from their inability to spell a word of one syllable correctly.

I find that a rather depressing POV given my own tendency to misspell words
or commit 'Prescott-isms' - particularly in newspostings. I'd rather judge
what people say by the content, although clarity obviously aids
understanding.

I've had more than one student who had serious problems with written
English, but were good scientists or engineers. Ditto a few of my
ex-colleagues. :-)

Yes. That's probably the source of the witticism. I have also heard it
applied to Julie Andrews, but this use in the first person singular is
quite novel.

ahem Given the clipping and related oddities I've encountered on some CDs
I must confess to having my doubts as to how that 'skill' is judged and
applied in various cases. In some cases it is a 'skill' I'd be embarassed
to possess, although I guess if they are mainly concerned by their pay,
they may not be bothered... :-)

Most broadcasting companies and many record companies are corporations,
so I wonder if your use of the word "private" is appropriate?

You mean they are "public" in the same sense as some schools in the UK are

time ago, in which you were very keen indeed to know the rates of pay
for your kind of work in this part of the EBU region. I think the info I
was able to supply came as a bit of a shock to you. You did not think
it juvenile then:-)))

I am told that "the problem in the UK is that there are few staff jobs in
broadcast, and a large number of people are competing for the same
work as freelances at a standard-rate on a take-it-or-leave-it basis."

Also it seems that "the suits don't have much regard for the skill of
sound personnel on the studio floor doing live sound (we call it "sound
sync" here) The picture is *much* more important, except of course
in the case of classical concerts, at which the very able people at
the BBC always excel."

Keith. Arny is a pretty simple fellow. He's a Born Again Christian.
My maternal grandfather was a Baptist minister. He was a fine,
upstanding God-fearing man, but even as a child, I could see
that "the brethren" were a very odious bunch to say the
least.. Arny fits the mould *exactly*.

When I need cheering up, I play one of his recordings:-))

Agreed, Jim, agreed. I am just have a bit of fun with pompous old
Arny, (of condensor microphone fame:-)
