QUESTION -- For Nakamichi Experts
Just remembered another famous/infamous Nak circuit update: When the
CR-7 was first introduced, the record EQ circuit was not engineered
for the new (at the time) ferrichrome tapes, and as a result
recordings made on these tapes would sound muddy with significant loss
of highs. It turned out that the CR-7's auto-calibration circuit
didn't know how to handle the frequency response of this tape
formulation and would over-compensate on the high frequency
attenuation. Nakamichi updated the record EQ circuit and issued a
service memo detailing how to re-wire the record EQ circuit on decks
that were manufactured and shipped with the standard EQ circuit.
By the way, if anyone has any spare Nakamichi service manuals, please
let me know. I'm always looking to add to my library.
