Default QUESTION -- For Nakamichi Experts

It's always interesting to find these circuit/feature updates in
Nakamichi equipment. The most famous/infamous one has to be the idler
gear upgrade that became so necessary with Nak decks that had the
Sankyo transport with the weak rubber idler design. Those gear
upgrades are highly sought after today. Whoever decides to reproduce
them will make a fortune.

** Is there anything more pathetic in the world of home hi-fi that a ****ing
cassette deck loon ?

The " Naka ******s " would have to be the worst of them.

Appalling to find them still spewing their brain dead bull**** in 2007.

Default QUESTION -- For Nakamichi Experts

Just remembered another famous/infamous Nak circuit update: When the
CR-7 was first introduced, the record EQ circuit was not engineered
for the new (at the time) ferrichrome tapes, and as a result
recordings made on these tapes would sound muddy with significant loss
of highs. It turned out that the CR-7's auto-calibration circuit
didn't know how to handle the frequency response of this tape
formulation and would over-compensate on the high frequency
attenuation. Nakamichi updated the record EQ circuit and issued a
service memo detailing how to re-wire the record EQ circuit on decks
that were manufactured and shipped with the standard EQ circuit.

By the way, if anyone has any spare Nakamichi service manuals, please
let me know. I'm always looking to add to my library.

Default QUESTION -- For Nakamichi Experts

I have a CR-7, recently acquired, which does not have the record EQ
modification. (If it had ever needed servicing and was taken to a Nak-
authorised repair facility, it would have automatically gotten the
circuit upgrade.)

Looks like I'll digging into this deck one of these rainy afternoons,
getting it updated. But first I need to take care of a cap issue in
the power supply section.
