Could some kind soul out there check out the sound quality
of archived "in Our Time"? I subscribe to the podcast and
those mp3s sound quite OK (mono yes, and only 56 kbps
but pretty adequate for a talk show). The 'back issues',
on the other hand are only available as Real Audio streams
and they all have an unpleasant metallic 'twang' to them.
I don't know if it is the feed or my SW/HW combo that is
at fault. I have tried to listen at work (completely
different HW and SW) but failed since the feed seem to
be blocked. So, once again, could anyone out there
lend me an ear and pass a judgement? Try this one for
example:

and click on "Listen to this programme in full"
Many thanks in advance,
OK...
Swim says 'boomy' and 'toilety', I thought so too and it was also a bit
'splashy' in places. There was a lot of background noise at times -
fidgetting, paper shuffling, someone kicking the mic occasionally and
maybe someone was wearing a nylon anorak?
I would not be too pleased with it if I had recorded it, but that said,
it was at least perfectly clear and intelligible - kinda grab the snitty
(low volume helps) and dump the recording afterwards, I would say!
