Default Subwoofer for music?

I've currently got an Arcam Alpha 3 (40WPC) and a pair of KEF Cresta 2s.
Would adding a sub be useful, or would my money be better spent on a pair of
floorstanders? Neither would be particularly expensive kit (probably a £150
budget).

A good pair of floorstanders would be the way I advise, not sure if you can
get a pair for £150.00?

Dear Doki
Depends what you are looking for from the sound. Adding a sub like a
second-hand QBass from REL would give you the deepest bass but it would not
improve the quality of the rest of the system. Adding new floor standing
speakers would also help the bass and by selling your KEFs you could afford
better speakers. However even second hand quality floor standing speakers
at £150 are hard to find. Lots will give you more bass but not necessarily
better sound. With speakers the most important thing to do is listen to
lots of different ones choose the ones you like best not the ones with the
biggest discount.

Regards
Richard

Cheers to everyone who replied. I might fiddle with speaker placement etc.
They're ported speakers and are currently in front of a book case, on
slightly small stands, so it's not ideal.
